Site News: Important Note On Subscription Renewals
I previously wrote about paid subscriptions automatically renewing starting this month. I have some clarification on a few things.
Being I’m still relatively new to Substack and this is my first time pausing and resuming subscriptions, it turns out I was incorrect on a couple things. They need clearing up so that everyone is aware.
The key piece of information that I want to highlight is that holdover subscriptions that were paused will renew at the rate of $7 per month or $70 per year. I’ve reached out to Substack to see if I can get this changed, but I have doubts that I can. This model tracks like other paid subscription sites such as The Athletic, which renews at same or higher rates but is constantly offering discounts to new signups. You can simply cancel your current rate and sign up at the lower one.
I apologize for the previous incorrect information and didn’t mean to mislead anyone on prices. As I said, you can cancel your current rate and sign up at the new, lower one. If you have any questions or issues about this, please reach out at the email address at the bottom of this post.
There is a small delay in accounts being charged. If you’re a monthly subscriber, you will generally be charged three days later than your original date. So if you were initially charged on the 1st of every month, it appears you will now be charged on the 4th.
If you’re an annual subscriber, the renewal date is generally either on the same date or within a few days of the one-year mark for when you were initially charged the annual amount, but three months later. So if you signed up for the annual rate Feb. 1-4, 2020, you will be charged the annual renewal this week. If you were initially charged March 1, 2020, you will be charged around June 1, and so on.
