Braves Sign Elder; Podcast Appearance To Discuss Draft
Since the last post, the Braves signed fifth-round pick Bryce Elder. The Texas right-hander inked for $850,000. That slot was valued at $336,600.
Elder was seen as a higher pick who fell because of signing concerns. The Braves saw him as worth the overslot effort as a high-floor starter with one of the best sliders in the draft class, a low-90s fastball that bumps 95 with sink, and multiple secondaries behind the slider, all coming from a big, durable frame.
Elder was the final unsigned pick. The Braves had the third-lowest bonus pool in the draft and came in just under.
Jared Shuster - $2.2 million ($2.74 million slot)
Jesse Franklin - $497,500 ($599,100 slot)
Spencer Strider - $451,800 ($451,800 slot)
Bryce Elder - $850,000 ($336,600 slot)
